Overview

Stellar is a personal journaling app. By default, your journal entries, moods, and reflections are stored privately on your device. If you choose to create an account, your entries are also securely backed up to our servers so you can keep them across devices and reinstalls — full details below.

What data we collect

On your device (always): Your journal entries, mood selections, and app preferences are stored locally on your iPhone using your device's built-in storage.

If you create an account (optional): Creating an account lets you back up your journal and sync it across devices. Your journal entry text is encrypted on your device before it ever leaves it, using a key stored securely in your device's Keychain — we do not have the ability to read your entry content. Only non-sensitive metadata (mood, date, colour) is stored unencrypted, since it's needed to display your entries. Account creation requires an email address, which we use solely for authentication.

Account and data deletion: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data — including your encrypted entries and account record — at any time from within the app, in Settings. This is a genuine deletion, not deactivation. Note that server backups may persist for a short period after deletion before being fully purged from our infrastructure.

Subscription data: If you subscribe to Stellar Unlimited, your purchase is processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. RevenueCat assigns you an anonymous subscriber ID and records your subscription status. No personally identifiable information is shared with RevenueCat — they do not receive your name or journal content. You can review RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Anonymous usage analytics: We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how people use Stellar's onboarding and subscription flow — for example, which screens are viewed and whether a trial is started. This is limited to interaction events (screen views, button taps, mood selections) and never includes your journal entry text. PostHog assigns an anonymous device identifier and does not receive your journal content. You can review PostHog's privacy policy at posthog.com/privacy.

What we do not collect

• We do not collect your name or any contact information beyond the email used for account creation, if you choose to create an account
• We cannot read your journal entry content — it is encrypted on your device before syncing, and we do not hold the key
• We do not use advertising trackers, and we never sell your data to any third party

Third parties

Stellar integrates three third-party services: Supabase, used for account authentication and encrypted data storage; RevenueCat, used for subscription management; and PostHog, used for anonymous product analytics. None of these services can access your unencrypted journal content.

Children's privacy

Stellar is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Your rights

If you don't create an account, your journal data is stored only on your device, and you have full control over it at all times — you can delete all app data by removing the app from your iPhone. If you create an account, you can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app, in Settings, or by contacting us.
